New Project Empowers Youth and NGOs to Protect Privacy in the Digital Era

The rapid expansion of digital platforms has created new opportunities for youth engagement—but also new threats to personal data and privacy. In response, a new Erasmus+ Small-scale Partnership project titled “Privacy Protection Education for the Youth Sector (PROTECT)” officially launched in September 2025. The project brings together organizations from Cyprus, Greece, France, and Serbia to strengthen data protection awareness and compliance across the European youth sector.

Despite the existence of privacy laws, many youth organizations and young people participating in Erasmus+ activities remain unaware of how their personal information is collected, stored, and shared.

“Young people deserve to know how to protect their digital identity, especially when participating in mobility projects, exchanges, or using online platforms. This project gives them the tools to do just that—safely, confidently, and in compliance with EU law,” the consortium emphasized.

Over the next 12 months, the PROTECT project will:

  • Develop a practical GDPR Toolkit for youth organizations and NGOs

  • Deliver training sessions for youth workers on privacy rights and data management

  • Conduct local workshops for young people to improve their digital safety awareness

  • Produce free multilingual resources in Greek, French, Serbian, and English

  • Map and engage with stakeholders across four communities

The project is led by MindSpin (Cyprus) in cooperation with:

  • Hellas for Us (Greece) – legal and training leader

  • Atlas International (France) – legal research and GDPR expertise

  • Connecting Dots (Cyprus) – youth outreach and inclusion

  • Navissos (Serbia) – workshop implementation and local engagement

The PROTECT project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union and supported by ΙΔΕΠ Διά Βίου Μάθησης Erasmus+ Cyprus.
